A thief robbed a jewellers in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, at gunpoint after casually taking a phonecall inside the store.

CCTV footage captured on June 4 shows the criminal on the phone at the desk while the shopkeeper showed him some chains.

Once the call was over he put his phone away and pulled out a gun from his other pocket.

According to reports, around $22,500 USD worth of jewellery was stolen from Lalit Jewellers.

A shop assistant ran after the fleeing criminal but failed to catch him.

The local police force has filed a First Information Report against the unidentified thief.

CCTV visuals have emerged of a miscreant robbing a jewellery shop at gunpoint in broad daylight in northern India's Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place at a jewellery shop at the Padam Singh Gate of Gandhi Road in the Khurja area of Bulandshahr district on June 4.

Visuals showed a man sitting on one side of the counter wearing a mask. There were gold chains displayed on the table. The shopkeeper was busy showing him the chains while he was on a call.

Suddenly the man stood up and kept the phone in his pocket and pulled out a gun from the other pocket. He fled with all the displayed gold chains on the table. The shopkeeper could not resist much because the robber had a gun in his hand.

According to reports, the robbery took place in broad daylight at Lalit Jewelers. The miscreant robbed 11 gold chains from the shop. The cost of all the chains is said to be around Rs 17.5 lakh (USD 22,533).

After the incident, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Superintendent of Police (SP) Dehat interrogated the shopkeeper on the spot. On the basis of CCTV footage, a search has been started for the accused miscreant.

Manish Bansal, a resident of Murarilal Pech Mohalla, has a shop in the name of Lalit Jewelers at Padam Singh Gate. Manish said that around 11:30 pm on Saturday afternoon, an unknown person came to the shop wearing a mask. The said person asked to show the gold chain. During this, two assistants were also present in the shop, who were sitting on the stairs. After a few minutes, this whole incident happened.

An assistant also ran after the accused, but the accused fled after turning on the bike parked in the street of Dhori locality, 200 meters from the shop. The victim informed the police about this.

Speaking to Newslions Media Network, Sandeep Singh, In-charge of Khurja City Police Station said that an FIR has been registered under IPC sections 392 and 506 against an unidentified person. Singh said that an investigation is on along with a drive to nab the man.
