Eighteen-month-old baby pulled out alive from borewell during miraculous rescue in western India
An 18-month-old baby was rescued alive from a borewell in western India's Gujarat.
The incident took place in Dudapur village under Dhrangadhra Taluka Police Station limits of Surendranagar District on June 7.
Visuals show army men using a thick rope to pull out the baby. After several pulls, the baby is seen coming out of the borewell. The rope was attached to a jacket-like garment on the toddler. A round of applause followed after the toddler was taken out of the well. It shared a beaming smile with everyone at the spot after being rescued. The baby was then taken to an ambulance where a number of army officers were seen taking care of him.
Speaking to Newslions, Vijaysinh B Jadhav, Head Constable, Dhrangadhra Taluka Police Station, said they were informed about the stranded baby at 8:25 pm. The police reached the spot, 20 kilometres away from the police station, at 8:40 pm and informed the Army.
At 9 pm, the rescue operation was started and lasted for 40 minutes.
The baby, identified as Shivam Badhel, is healthy, but is currently admitted at a hospital, where doctors have kept him under observation.
The baby was stuck at a depth of 30-35 feet (9.14 metres-10.66 metres). The borewell was 500 feet (152.4 metres) deep.
