The execution of four political activists in Myanmar sparked protests around the world this week.

Footage shows Burmese demonstrators gathering in front of the Embassy of Myanmar in London on Monday, July 25.

The protesters hung pictures of the four slain political prisoners: Ko Jimmy, Phyo Zeyar Thaw, Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw, offering flowers to express their grief over the 'unfair deaths.'

A junta spokesperson said the executions were carried out on Saturday. It was Myanmar's first use of capital punishment since the late 1980s. Burmese people were outraged at the executions, which triggered protests in Myanmar, Thailand, London, Japan and other countries.

The country has suffered ongoing unrest and uprisings from rebel groups following the removal of well-liked leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a military coup last February. Soldiers responded with barbaric force to protests.

Britain has imposed financial sanctions on Myanmar and lists a number of individuals who are targeted for asset seizures.
