Student activists called for 'unity against the military' as they held an impassioned protest in the largest city in Myanmar.

Led by the Union of Students of Pyinnyar Nandaw Private School, the youths proclaimed their defiance against the ruling authoritarian government in Yangon City on August 21.

They shouted slogans such as: 'As long as we're united, you can't tear us apart,' and 'As long as our revolutionary blood boils, you must tremble with fear.'

Other youth organisations such as the Burmese Youth Network, the Basic Education Students Association (Akala-Baho) and the Federation of Basic Education Students reportedly also joined the movement.

Myanmar has suffered ongoing unrest and uprisings from rebel groups following the removal of well-liked leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a military coup last February. Soldiers have responded with barbaric force to protests.
