A monitor lizard was rescued from a residential area in central India's Madhya Pradesh after it strayed into the locality.

The incident took place in Makronia, a town in Sagar district of the state, on July 30.

Visuals showed a rescuer holding the lizard by its neck after rescuing it.

The reptile was later put inside a plastic container.

According to reports, rescuer Aqeel Baba rescued the reptile and subsequently released it back into its natural habitat.

He said that reptiles and animals are straying into residential areas due to the lack of water in forests, following a spell of deadly heatwaves that gripped many parts of the country.
