Footage shows how a fire ravaged a 900-year-old bridge in China.

Flames ripped through the ancient structure in Fujian province on August 6.

Officials said the bridge collapsed but there were no casualties as everyone was evacuated before the inferno spread.

The Criminal Investigation Department of the Pingnan County Public Security Bureau said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The 900-year-old wooden arch bridge known as the Wan'an bridge, meaning Universal Peace bridge, was built during Song Dynasty period (960-1127), located in Pingnan county, Fujian province.

It was burned during a fire in 1708, rebuilt in 1742, and repaired in subsequent years.

In May 2006, it was announced as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In November 2012, it was selected into the list of China's world cultural heritage

Xu Yitao, an architectural archaeological expert of Peking University, told local media: 'I speculate it was likely to be caused by man-made conducts and not a natural disaster, the spontaneous combustion of bridge on water is rare.

'It was an example of the Chinese wisdoms on wooden architecture, like those from art pieces such as 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival'.'
