A driver was pulled over by police and fined for trying to get away with this incredibly overloaded pickup truck.

Shocked traffic cops spotted the heavily modified vehicle transporting goods that extended several meters into the air in Kanchanaburi, western Thailand on August 8.

Police Senior Sergeant Major Sarawut Rangagam caught up with the driver, who was told he was violating the Road Traffic Act stating that the loaded item must not exceed the width of the vehicle.

Police Senior Sergeant Major Sarawut Rangagam said: ‘The truck was carrying items so high up from the ground. I was worried that it could cause danger to other people.

‘We spoke to the driver and fined him. Other commuters should avoid such risky behavior and find a vehicle that is suitable for transporting the goods instead. And most importantly, such action spoils the image of Kanchanaburi province.'

Thai road safety laws stated that items on the car should not extend the vehicle for more than 8ft. For cars that are not wider than 7.5ft, the item should not be more than 9.8ft tall from ground.

Despite specific guidelines on keeping the road safe for motorists and commuters, the Southeast Asian country still has among the highest rates of road fatalities in the world, while ranking first in the region with at least 20,000 people dying on its roads every year.
