Raging floods surge through street in France following thunderstorms
Raging floods surged through a residential street in France following thunderstorms and driving rain.
Terrified residents watched from their windows as the torrents battered homes in the village of l'Etrat on the outskirts of Saint-Etienne on Wednesday evening August 17.
A wheelie bin and other piles of rubbish were seen being carried away by the deluge - which resembled powerful river rapids.
Similar downpours were seen across the country following a recent heatwave. Weather group Meteo France measured one month's worth of rain in a single hour. The meteorological station on the Eiffel Tower in Paris recorded wind speeds of up to 65 miles per hour.
