Concerned locals and families are seen waiting outside a children's daycare centre where a former policeman killed at least 31 people on October 6.

Police have stated that 22 children are among the casualties.

Dozens of bodies covered in blood were scattered across the floor and on the grounds outside the Child Care Center Uthai Sawan Subdistrict Administrative Organization in Nong Bua Lam Phu province in the far north of the country.

Local media reported that the shooter was a former policeman who fled the scene shortly after the rampage in a white Toyota pickup truck at around 2 pm local time.

Officers named the shooter as Police Lieutenant Panya Khamrab, 34, from the Na Wang district police station in the same region as the incident.

He had reportedly been discharged from the force several weeks ago over drugs offenses. He is understood to have also killed his wife and child in the rampage before turning the gun on himself.
