A 64-year-old virgin is set to marry his teenage girlfriend after her parents gave permission for the wedding.

Romeo Beronio said it was love at first sight so he courted Valentina Alen for three weeks in Davao province, the Philippines.

Only nine months into the relationship, the lovestruck cobbler proposed marriage to the high school student which received blessings from the youngster's family.

Footage shows the sweet couple being teased by family to kiss after their engagement.

Romeo said: ‘When I first met her I fell in love because she was a very kind girl. I couldn't sleep when I first knew her.'

The infatuated senior said he had been a bachelor all his life.

He said: 'I never met anybody that I wanted to be with. I stayed alone.

'I bought Valentina food and flowers until she agreed to be my girlfriend in less than a month.

‘I really wanted her to be my girlfriend so I did everything I could.'

Soon-to-be bride Valentina said she appreciated the old man's gesture and eventually answered yes.

She said: ‘He courted me for three weeks. Even if he has a simple job repairing shoes, he is a responsible man.

‘He always gave me bread and soft drinks which I loved. He even gave me flowers. My ex-boyfriends never gave me anything and don't have a job.'

Meanwhile, Valentina's mum, May, said their daughter may be young but she is at the right age to make her own decisions, so they could not tell her what to do.

May said: ‘It's okay with us as long as they understand each other. If that's what she wants. Even if the man is old we can't tell her what to do.'

The couple are now saving for a wedding ceremony where they will invite family and friends but the love birds are already living in their own home.

Under the Philippines laws, a person who is younger than 21-years-old may marry but has to secure consent from parents.
