Riots broke out in a city in Indonesia, Saturday (12/11/2022) in Dogiyai Regency, Papua Province.

The trigger for the riots was caused by a fatal accident in which a 5-year-old boy named Noldy Goo was run over by a truck transporting building materials in Ikebo Village, Kamuu District, Dogiyai Regency at around 14.30 local time.

Suddenly hundreds of people who are local natives took anarchic actions. They went on a rampage with traditional war tools.

The Indonesian Police and Military apparatus in the area tried hard to ward off the increasingly violent crowds. But these efforts did not produce results. The masses continued to move and set fire to a number of vehicles as well as hundreds of houses and six government office buildings in the area.

The mass action was finally stopped after the Police and TNI acted decisively. Security forces fired warning shots and tear gas to disperse the crowds which acted brutally.

Until now, Tuesday 15 November 2022, the security situation at the location of the riots has been gradually conducive. The police added two company-level units to help secure the area.

From that incident, hundreds of residents who were immigrants in the area fled to a safe city.

Three people were injured as a result of being attacked by the mob, four policemen also suffered serious injuries as a result of being hit by arrows from the mob. One person was found dead as a result of being killed by an anarchist mob.

Four police officers were reported injured as a result of being hit by arrows from the brutal mob.

11 of the 12 people previously reported missing have been found.

According to Papua Police Spokesman Kombes Pol Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, until now the police are still looking for one of the 12 workers who disappeared after the riots and whose whereabouts are unknown.

The police in that area indicated that there was a provocation from the Left Wing Group of the West Papua National Committee against the masses which caused major riots in the area.

The Head of Local Police, Inspector General of Police Mathius Fakhiri has firmly ordered his men to arrest the provocateurs and perpetrators of the riot.
