British pensioner, 74, hit by pickup truck while walking over zebra crossing in Thailand
This is the shocking moment a British pensioner was hit by a pickup truck while walking over a zebra crossing in Thailand.
The Englishman, Peter Palmer, 74, was halfway across the pedestrian crossing when the white Isuzu D-Max rammed into him while running a red light outside a condominium in Pattaya on November 28.
Graphic CCTV footage shows how the hapless tourist was flung like a ragdoll as the vehicle mowed him down at speed despite the red traffic signal.
Showing no concern at all, the pickup then whizzed away, leaving Peter curled up on the asphalt and apparently unconscious as a bystander called for help.
The pensioner was rushed to a hospital, where he received four stitches for a head wound and took x-rays for a painful hip injury.
Peter, speaking to local media, said: 'If the pickup driver sees me on the news, I would like to tell him to surrender himself and take care of me. Both motorists and pedestrians should be more careful when using roads for the safety of everybody.'
He added he will be filing a complaint with the police after he returns from the hospital.
He has also appealed to Thai media to broadcast his story to help him track down the driver as the license plate was unclear on security footage.
Hit-and-run offenders, under Sections 78 and 160 of Thailand's Land Traffic Act, may face fines between 2,000 to 10,000 THB (around 56 to 281 USD), detention of up to three months, or both, with penalties increasing if a victim was killed or seriously injured.
