Cyclone Mandous ravages homes in coastal India

Cyclone Mandous has developed from a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, and it will soon bring torrential rain to Chennai.

According to meteorologists of the India Meteorological Department, the rains will get intensified between Thursday and Saturday.

By the morning of December 10, Mandous, which is now located around 600 kilometres east-southeast of Chennai, is predicted to make landfall between Pondicherry and Sriharikota, which is located on the coast to Chennai's north and northeast.

Fishermen are asked not to venture into the sea. The tides are hitting more than eight feet in coastal Pondichery a small union territory in South India.

Houses of a fishing hamlet have been eroded by the waves. More than ten houses were eroded by the high tides, footage from December 8 in Pondichery, South India shows.
