A worker is being rescued after he was trapped in a collapsed well for 12 hours in Colombia.

Footage shows rescuers loosening the soil around the construction area to free the worker named Domingo Diaz on the evening of January 19.

Local media reported that he had been digging to build a water reservoir in the village of Barranca de Upia in the Meta department when the well caved in. He was stuck at a depth of 26ft (eight metres).

Relief agencies and locals handed him water as they battled to pull him out using backhoes and shovels.

Responders have begun using spades as they complete the rescue operation.
