Thousands of tourists in Padang witness the procession of two "sipasan" transporting dozens of Chinese children at the Cap Go Meh celebration
Thousands of Padang residents and local and international tourists witnessed the procession of two "sipasan" carrying dozens of Chinese children in Padang, West Sumatra, during the 2023 Cap Go Meh celebrations. Sunday (5 February 2023).
Even though it was pouring rain, the procession was still enthusiastically held and witnessed by tourists.
a Chinese resident figure in the city of Padang, Albert said ""Sipasan" is an animal depicted with the head and tail of a dragon, but its body is in the shape of a centipede that can carry children,".
Albert added, "Usually this sapling carries hundreds of children, but we created history in the world that two groups of Chinese HBT and HTT are now united to display two saplings with a length of 50 meters with a total of 33 saplings for each child, so a total of 66 children for both "spapan","
Hundreds of Chinese parents paraded the "sipasan" on their shoulders around the city of Padang with the aim of making the children happy at the Cap Go Meh celebration.
This "sipasan" procession can only be seen in two regions of the world, namely in Taiwan and the city of Padang, Indonesia, during the Cap Go Meh celebration.
