Cape Town, 22 May 2023: Security guards employed by Chippa Security services marched to the offices of PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa), claiming they have not been paid their salaries for the past two months. Chippa Security is owned by Siviwe “Chippa” Mpengese the owner of the Chippa United Football Club. Chippa Security is a service provider to PRASA.

Thobela Nkone, a union shop steward with the company said staff members were under great strain because of non-payment salaries. Nkone claimed one staff member had lost his marriage because of not getting a salary while others were unable to pay their insurance policies because debit orders bounced.

According to Nkone members of PRASA management said they would not accept the memorandum of demands if they read the demands to the media.
