RARE images of kingfishers ironically taking a rest on a “no fishing” sign at a lake have been captured by an astonished Afghanistan veteran.

One image shows an extremely rare shot of two mates together on the sign while another shot shows the colourful kingfisher face posing for the photographer.

A peaceful moment is encapsulated by the kingfisher in a tree looking down upon the lake.

These images were captured by soldier Chris Gee (37) from County Durham, England.

Chris captured the kingfishers on the River Wear in Durham England on his Nikon D500.

He began his photography work in 2010 whilst on his first operational tour with the army in Afghanistan. Chris was thrilled with his captures as kingfishers are one of his favourite birds to photograph.
