On August 31, just after 2 am, a 911 dispatcher received a frantic call from a mother and father from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, saying that their baby boy wasn’t breathing. Distressingly for mother, Marchelle Brown, she had already lost one child in 2020.

As the emergency dispatcher tried to decipher the details of the panicked parent’s car and location, local Murfreesboro Police Officer Robert Baer happened to be in the Bradyville Pike area when he heard the medical assistant go out over the radio.

After being flagged down by the frantic father, Officer Baer ran to help the distraught parents.

Officer Baer performed chest compressions and CPR on the 1-year-old child while footage shows how the child’s father shouted for his baby boy to stay with him: “Please don’t stop breathing”.

Thankfully, the baby awoke and remained awake after Officer Baer performed CPR twice on the young infant.

In the bodycam footage, you can hear Officer Baer say with relief: “1145 the baby’s breathing. Baby whimpering”

Once Officer Baer was able to stabilise the baby, it wasn’t long until paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene to take over care of the child and parents.

The dashcam footage shows Officer Baer’s emotions taking over once he knew his part was done, with another officer comforting him.

Describing the incident, Officer Baer said that he “picked him up and his eyes rolled in the back of his head and that’s when I sat him back down, he wasn’t breathing again so I started chest compressions again.”

“Once he came too, he started breathing again.

“I felt relief, I don’t know how long I did compressions.

“I told someone it felt like it was forever.

“In that situation, it feels like forever.”

Over a week later, Officer Baer had an emotional reunion with Marchelle Brown, the mother of the healthy baby boy, and had the chance to hold the baby again, this time under much happier circumstances.

“I lost a child in 2020, I really appreciate it and I thank you so much,” Marchelle said.

“I’m glad that you saved our child.

“This is a miracle. He’s a miracle and I’m proud of him.”

For Officer Baer, this is one act of service he says he will never forget.

“Thinking about my own son, I want to go home and grab him to make sure he’s okay.” Officer Baer said.

“I’ll never forget the things that took place, the sound he made when he started breathing.”
