A wild elephant broke through an iron gate and barged into a resident's home in southwestern China.

Video filmed in Mengla County in Yunnan Province on June 3 shows two dogs in a courtyard fiercely barked, attempting to drive away a wild elephant.

However, the elephant forcefully broke down the door and entered the house.

Mr Peng, the homeowner, stated that this was not the first time an elephant had invaded their home.

On that day, the elephant consumed their rice, cooked food, and other items before leaving. Both the dogs and the family were unharmed.

The elephant lingered at the doorway for a while before eventually departing on its own.

Mr Peng explained that the local forestry department uses a drone to monitor the movement of elephant herds. If they approach human-populated areas, alerts are issued.

Following the incident, an insurance company visited Peng and agreed to provide compensation.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
