A wild monkey wandered inside a school while pupils exercised at the gym.

The macaque was spotted on the second floor of the building by students while it was clinging to the ledge in Chonburi province, Thailand on May 25.

But the creature was startled when it noticed the youngsters watching and chased them away.

Footage shows the primate sitting on the handrail before it leapt up to run after the children.

Student Worawet Atthaprachong said: ‘I don't know how the monkey went past the teachers and security guards. Maybe it came from the garden.'

No one was hurt, and the monkey eventually left the compound. It also did not destroy anything while inside the school.

Worawet said: ‘Maybe it was only curious or wanted to search for food inside the school.'
