Rescue volunteers cut through a family's steel gate to save a terrified pet dog trapped between the metal grates in Thailand.

Officers from the Por Tek Tung Foundation arrived at the house in Nonthaburi province a few miles north of Bangkkok and found the hapless female pooch crying as its head was squeezed through a hole on the gate on June 26.

Footage shows the rescuers trying to pry the dog loose without using tools, the canine whimpering as it was pulled from behind.

When it remained stuck, the team decided to use metal cutters instead to speed up the operation. A grueling few minutes followed in which the volunteers carefully cut off parts of the gate without hurting the animal.

After spending an hour trapped, the grateful family pet was finally freed, and sprinted around the yard before running back inside the house.

The owners said they were unsure how the dog became stuck as it did not typically try to squeeze through the gate. They said it was a stray they had adopted and now lives with two other dogs on the property.
