A rare Takin was spotted searching for food in a village in northwestern China.

Video filmed by a villager in Nankang County in Gansu Province on July 2, shows a takin leisurely wandering around a village.

As it turns out, the takin had mistakenly entered the village, mainly in search of food. Considering the usually volatile temperament of isolated takin that could potentially cause harm to people, villagers wisely chose not to disturb it.

The animal occasionally stepped into cornfields or wandered into village courtyards. Finding no food after its exploration, the takin left the village unhurriedly.

According to reports, the takin is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List and considered endangered in the country. It is threatened by overhunting and the destruction of its natural habitat.

Zhang Bo, the Party Branch Secretary of Dazhuang Village in Nianba Town, Kang County, reminded villagers that the takin is a first-class nationally protected animal. He issued an advisory to the community groups and village groups, urging everyone to protect the takin.

Currently, the local authorities have assigned specific personnel to monitor the situation. They will issue a warning to the villagers if they spot any wild animals.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
