Torrential downpours turned the streets into rivers and triggered the temporary closure of key metro exits in eastern China. Passengers at Wuxi East Station found themselves in the midst of a waterlogged city as the rainwater cascaded down the stairs of the metro exits.

At around 11:00 am, a public notice was issued by Wuxi Metro, declaring the temporary closure of Exits 1 and 2 of Wuxi East Station on Line 2. The sheer volume of rainwater accumulating at the station's exits raised safety concerns, prompting the swift decision to shut them down temporarily.

However, just two hours later, the water at the station's exits had subsided significantly. As a result, passenger entry into the station was no longer affected, much to the relief of travellers who were worried about their travel plans being thwarted by the weather.

In a reassuring development, Wuxi Metro announced at approximately 2:00 pm that Exits 1 and 2 at Wuxi East Station were back in operation. The quick response by the authorities ensured that the disruption to passengers and metro operations was kept to a minimum.

In a final turn of events, at 12:42 pm, Wuxi's Meteorological Bureau lifted the red alert for heavy rain.
