A huge rat snake was seen slithering over a woman's bedside table in Japan.

The 6ft-long serpent was spotted slinking on top of pillows, baskets of make-up, and notebooks when Rhose Alicquino Ramos was about to enter the room to sleep in Shizuoka on August 8.

Footage shows the snake exploring Rhose's belongings, unaware that the residents were watching it from the door. It raised its head towards the curtain, seemingly searching for a way out.

Rhose said she locked the room and slept outside, but the reptile was gone in the morning and has never returned since.

She said: ‘It was around 1:30 am. I briefly went to the toilet then I heard something moving inside the room when I returned. I was so shocked when I saw the snake upon turning on the light.'
