Devotees tossed lotus flowers at Buddha statues for a religious parade along a canal in Thailand.

Footage shows hundreds of locals gathered to pay respects to the sacred statues being paraded through the the Bang Phli canal in Samut Prakan province on October 28.

The lotus-throwing festival, known in Thai as 'Rab Bua', is a longstanding tradition and an act of making merit in Buddhism.

The residents believe those whose lotus flowers land near the Buddha images will have their wishes granted.

The festival starts on the year's 11th waxing moon - usually in September or October.
