Footage shows a chandelier swinging from the ceiling as an earthquake rattled a school in Calamba City, Laguna province, in the Philippines on December 5 afternoon.

A teacher, Kathleen Tumlos, said: 'I was sitting at my desk when I felt the shaking. I ran towards the front desk of our review centre and saw that the chandelier was moving back and forth. So, I took a video to send to my children at home.'

Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said the magnitude 5.9 tremor struck at 4:23 pm southeast of Lubang town in Occidental Mindoro province some 320 miles away from the capital city Manila. It was tectonic in origin, and was recorded at a depth of 79 kilometres.

PHIVOLCS said no damage was expected from the quake, adding aftershocks were likely.

It comes after a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur province in southern Philippines on Saturday evening, killing a pregnant woman in Davao del Norte province.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
