A priest accidentally poured holy water onto followers when the bottle cap detached during service in the Philippines.

Footage shows the Catholic priest spraying to the crowd when he unwittingly squeezed on the container too hard, and the cover flew off in Manila on December 24.

He appeared embarrassed and apologised to the people who were drenched in the liquid before proceeding with the activity.

Catholicism was introduced to the Philippines by Spanish missionaries in the 16th century, quickly becoming the country's dominant religion.
