A driver who took his eyes off the road to admire the scenery crashed into the back of a parked tow truck.

Dashcam footage recorded in the Yubei District of Chongqing in south-western China showed the man, identified as An, driving down the G210 motorway at around 2 pm on December 28.

But just seconds into the video, he can be seen ending up in the trailer of an illegally parked truck, after failing to notice it because he was too mesmerised by the beautiful nature around him.

The incident was quickly reported to the police who rushed to the scene immediately after. An had only suffered scratches, said cops.

Yubei Traffic Police said in a statement: 'At the scene, the white car was parked on the trailer, with the front half of the car hanging in the air.

'The two front wheels of the car were damaged, the lights and bumper fell off, and the driver was scratched by the deployed airbag.'

'While driving, he enjoyed the scenery along the way.

'He completely forgot that he was driving and did not notice that there was a trailer parked on the roadside in front of him. He drove straight up and rushed forward.'

Police added that the tow truck driver, identified only as Luo, had parked on the roadside to handle some business in a nearby factory.

They said: 'Because the accident was caused by distracted driving by the car driver An, he bears the main responsibility for it, while the tow truck driver Luo violated the temporary parking regulations on the road and bears the secondary responsibility for the accident.'

According to China's Road Traffic Safety regulations, An was given three penalty points and fined CNY 200 (GBP 22) for the incident.

Additionally, the truck driver was fined CNY 100 (GBP 11).
