Volunteers wrangled a monitor lizard hiding behind family's water tank in Thailand.

Footage shows the officers dragging the reptile from the corner of the room after it had scuttled inside the residents' home in Chonburi province on July 30.

The aggressive reptile was heard hissing at the team as they picked it up to be sealed inside a sack.

The monitor lizard was later released into nature, far from the residential area.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
