Hundreds of commuters squeezed into a crowded train during rush hour in the Philippines.

Footage shows the passengers, mainly workers and students heading home to call it a day, rushing to step inside the coach of the Philippine National Railway at a station in Manila on March 2.

The men and women hung their backpacks at the front of their bodies and pushed themselves into the packed train.

One of the passengers John Michael Rodriguez said: ‘That was the daily life of a commuter in Manila. You would endure that everyday just to get home.'

Manila lacks an integrated and reliable public transport system. The metro rail system is limited, buses are overcrowded, and jeepneys contribute to congestion. Despite various initiatives and proposals to improve the transport system, the capital city struggles to address these long-standing issues effectively.
