Locals in Subarang Longa, Indonesia, were forced to cross a makeshift bridge precariously positioned over a fast-flowing river after flooding cut the region off.

Flash floods and cold lava flowing from Mount Marapi hit the surrounding areas killing 54 people and leaving 18 still missing.

Dozens of residents of Subarang Longa, Jorong Tigo Batur, Nagari Parambahan, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia, were determined to cross a makeshift bridge made of bamboo. They were forced to do this because the concrete bridge connecting the outside area was lost in the flash flood that occurred on Saturday, May 11 2024. Not only adults, children also crossed because they had no other choice of route.
The cold lava flash flood disaster from Mount Marapi hit a number of city districts in West Sumatra Province, such as Tanah Datar Regency and Agam Regency. Data from the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), as of May 15 2024, the death toll reached 54 people. Meanwhile, 18 people are still missing.
