Every day Iram Saogo (60 years old) rowes a canoe alone, kilometers from his warehouse in Sinaka Hamlet, Mentawai Islands Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia to find fish. He has been doing this activity since he was young.
Iram is a mother of four and already has a number of grandchildren. He only has a fishing rod to catch fish. He has been doing this activity since seven in the morning and only returned in the afternoon. Iram usually fishes around the small islands in Sinaka waters.
Most of the fish he catches are sold at 10,000 rupiah per kilogram, to help his husband support his family. Only a few are used to eat with the family. However, due to limited equipment and physical weakness, he could only get a few fish. In fact, sometimes he had to go home without bringing any results.
The activities carried out by Iram were also carried out by some women from Sinaka Hamlet, an isolated area that inhabits Simatapi Island in the Mentawai Islands Regency.
