Car rolls back in parking blunder and knocks over motorcycle riders
A car rolled backwards onto the road and knocked over passing motorcycles in a parking blunder in Malaysia.
The white SUV parked in front of a car service centre where the driver climbed down and left the door opened before the crash happened in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, on June 9.
Only seconds later, the vehicle slid backwards along the sloped path and was struck by passing motorists.
CCTV footage shows the SUV blocking the first motorcycle rider's path, who slammed onto the side of the car and fell over.
The car continued towards the other lane, where a second motorcycle rider slammed into it before it finally stopped.
A security guard tried to catch up to the car, but it was too fast. The driver and the service centre employees were also gathered outside after the crash.
Local media reported the driver had forgotten to pull the handbrake when he climbed down the car.
The motorcycle riders had minor injuries from the crash but were not seriously hurt. It was unclear if they filed a complaint against the driver.
Malaysia has one of the highest road fatality rates among developing countries, with more than 6,000 deaths annually from traffic accidents in recent years. Poor road discipline, lack of enforcement, and attitudes tolerating dangerous driving were cited as major factors in the high accident rates.
