Two wild elephants calmly jay walked across a road together as they returned to a forest in Thailand.

The pair of jumbos emerged from the woods and wandered onto the rural highway in Chachoengsao province on July 26.

Footage shows the animals ambling across the concrete road before making a beeline for the trees on the other side.

Park rangers followed them until they safely reached their habitat away from homes.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.
