A wild elephant wandered across a rural road with her babies in Thailand.

Footage shows the mother leading the way across the path before two of her offspring emerged from the other side in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand, on January 4.

She had to chase one of them back to the forest after it wandered away until the three of them safely crossed.

Driver Nokwisanee, who stopped from a distance to let the animals pass, said: ‘The baby elephant wanted to play and was scolded by its mother.'

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century. The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
