Russia - August 18, 2024

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka, Russia, unleashed a significant eruption, spewing ash and volcanic gases into the air. The eruption, observed from 11:00 to 14:00 KST, displayed intense activity on its western and southwest slopes.

Reports from the village of Klyuchi in the Ust-Kamchatsky District at 17:30 KST indicate ongoing volcanic activity, with a glowing ash column visible at the northern center of the eruption site. Experts suggest that pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) may be predominant, indicating a hazardous situation despite a gradual decrease in visual intensity.

Authorities have issued a stern warning, urging all visitors and residents to avoid approaching the volcano and to monitor the situation from a safe distance due to the persistently high level of danger.
