A resident had a near miss when a lift began moving as he tried to step inside.

Cuong Van was waiting to enter the lift while a neighbour pressed the buttons just as the doors closed on him at the Linh Dam apartment in Hanoi, northern Vietnam, on August 26.

CCTV footage shows Cuong with his foot inside before quickly backing away when the doors closed while the elevator moved up.

Cuong was safe as he stepped back on time while one of the residents inside the lift almost had his fingers hurt from the closing doors.

The relieved resident said: 'When I watched the video, I was truly shocked. It was a very near miss that could have killed me.'

Residents said another elevator in the building malfunctioned that morning, trapping ten children inside before they were rescued.
