A giant plume of smoke and gas has built up over Taal Volcano this morning as the volcano emitted 1,141 tonnes of sulfur dioxide.

Footage shows the active stratovolcano with its peak shrouded by a cloud of gas in Batangas, the Philippines on August 29.

Entry to the volcano island and flying aircraft close to the danger zone are still prohibited.

It remains at alert level one with possible hazards of steam or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ashfalls.
