Food vendor plunges into drain when concrete cover breaks
This is the shocking moment a street food vendor plunged into a drain when the concrete cover she was standing on collapsed.
Siriwan Phangwiang, 32, was selling grilled pork at a market when she walked over to tubs behind her to collect ingredients in Chaiyaphum province, Thailand.
However, the deteriorated cover gave in to her weight and crumbled before she could step away to safety.
CCTV footage shows Siriwan falling straight into the 10ft deep manhole as the cover broke, hitting her body on the sides of the hole while a shocked relative shouted for help.
Good Samaritans, including a technician fixing the cameras in the area, rushed to help and lowered a ladder to help Siriwan climb out.
Miraculously, she was able to walk around properly without serious injuries.
Siriwan said: 'I often go to sell food in that area and I've stood on the drain before. There were no problems and no sign of it being dangerous.
'Then this time, when I bent down to pick up some food, it suddenly broke. I just remember falling and being surrounded by darkness then landing on the hard ground. It all happened too fast for me to be afraid.
'Thankfully I was not seriously hurt and could walk again. But I could not stand up the next day. My ribs were sore and I went to the doctor. I'm recovering from the bruises now.'
The owner of the property apologised to Siriwan and said he would fix the cover with something more secure.
