This is the moment a carjacker escapes with an ambulance on a motorway in India.

Dramatic footage shows the robber escaping in an emergency vehicle, speeding past a toll plaza where staff unsuccessfully attempted to stop it before it collided with the gate on Saturday, December 7.

Reports say the thief hijacked the medical emergency van in Hayathnagar, Telangana, sparking a high-speed police chase along the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway.

The pursuit escalated near Chityala, where the suspect clashed with an officer.

Assistant Sub-Inspector John Reddy was seriously injured while trying to stop the robber and was rushed to a private hospital in Hyderabad, where he reportedly remains in critical condition.

The chase ended near Suryapet when cops blocked the rescue vehicle's path, forcing it to stop. The suspect was arrested after fleeing for over 100 kilometres.

Preliminary investigations suggest the stealer has a criminal history and is a repeat offender.
