This is the hilarious moment a woman swings her handbag to fight off an angry ostrich.

Khone Khone, 42, was about to leave the home after visiting her friend when the one-year-old bird attacked her in Savannakhet, Laos, on December 19.

Footage shows the mother-of-two defending herself on the driveway by using her bag to hit the angry creature, named Savanna.

Upon smacking the pet female ostrich on its chest, it fled away.

Local media reported that the woman and the flightless bird did not sustain any injuries from the encounter.

The filmer said: 'The ostrich is my pet, but sometimes she becomes aggressive and assaults visitors. However, it is gentle with people it knows.

'This was the first time my friend visited me, so Savanna was defensive. I think she scared away my friend.'

Ostriches attack when they feel threatened, especially when their young or territory is at risk.

Researchers found that ostriches are capable of killing humans, hyenas, and lions with their powerful kicks. Their feet have long claws that can disembowel or kill a person with one blow.
