Smoke from the Eaton Fire shrouded homes in Glendale, California.

The blaze reportedly broke out in the hills above Altadena on Tuesday night, January 7, prompting evacuation orders.

Dramatic footage captured by Bryan Mittelstadt shows a plume of smoke and an orange glow from the blaze, with half of the skies above him still clear from the fire on Wednesday morning.

Bryan said: 'This video was shot from inside the mandatory evacuation zone from my 4th-story apartment, located right up against the vegetation of the Hollywood Hills, which are currently ablaze.

'The fire is rapidly spreading downhill, and in the half hour I filmed, it moved another quarter of the way down the hill, igniting nearby homes.

'There were also pockets of fire erupting closer to my location. The situation is dire as the fire continues to advance, and the destruction is visible all around.'

Cal Fire reported that the flames had burned at least 10,600 acres by Wednesday afternoon, destroying 500 structures and killing five people.

President Trump has previously blamed state officials in California for mismanaging irrigation and water supply, which has caused dry conditions ripe for wildfires to spread.

The Eaton Fire is one of five wildfires currently ravaging the region. The Palisades Fire has burned more than 15,800 acres by Wednesday with zero containment, wiping out around 1,000 structures, making it the most destructive wildfire ever recorded in Los Angeles County.

The Woodley Fire, which began on Wednesday, has burned 30 acres, while the Hurst Fire has scorched more than 505 acres since Tuesday night. The Lidia Fire, which started on Wednesday afternoon, has consumed 80 acres and is 30 per cent contained.
