This is the bizarre moment a fisherman reels in an SUV using nothing more than his rod and some strong line to rescue the driver, who was perched on the vehicle's roof after it crashed into a large pond.

Dramatic footage shows the angler casting his line to the car, which floats in the middle of the pond after the crash in Shenzhen, China, on December 28.

The driver appears to have climbed onto the vehicle's roof as the fisherman casts his line to the stranded motorist.

The driver then ties it to the roof of the white auto, and the fisherman, Mr Zhang, slowly and carefully reels the vehicle in, allowing the distressed man to jump onto the shore safely.

Zhang later told local media that the motorist had ended up in the water after steering his vehicle too close to the edge of the pond, causing it to slip in and float out to the middle.
