This is the dramatic moment a drowning man was saved by fishermen from a raging dam in the Philippines.

Angler Rannie was reportedly fishing on a bridge at the Cong Dadong Dam in Pampanga when he suddenly jumped into the water.

However, powerful currents and an underwater whirlpool prevented him from swimming back to shore on July 13.

Footage captured by onlooker John Pohl Mallari shows the man briefly clinging to lily plants floating in the murky water before screaming for help as he struggled to stay afloat.

Alarmed by his cries, his companions threw a fishing net in a desperate attempt to pull him out.

Moments later, another fisherman boarded a green wooden dingy, paddling toward Rannie with his bare hands.

In another clip, the unconscious man can be seen being carried to safety by two rescuers, one holding his arms and the other his legs.

John said: 'Rannie is fine and currently recovering from the incident.'

Authorities have since warned the public against swimming or jumping into dam reservoirs, especially during the rainy season, when currents can become deceptively strong and dangerous.

Whirlpools and strong suction currents are often formed near spillways, sluice gates, or areas where water flow is controlled, making it extremely difficult for swimmers to escape.

Dams also create sudden shifts in water pressure and turbulence that can drag people underwater within seconds.
