A bus driver allegedly converted the seats of his vehicle into beds before he was arrested over safety violations in Kazakhstan.

The 40-year-old driver from Turkistan allegedly replaced 36 single beds inside his Yutong brand bus in Kostanay.

He offered long-distance journeys along the Almaty–Yekaterinburg highway using the dangerous travel set-up, that he believed was making guests feel more comfortable onboard.

Authorities said they had caught him in one of the safety inspections.

Footage shows the two rows of neat beds. They had uniform sheets with a rug in the aisle, like a small dormitory.

Investigators said the sleeper bus set-up posed serious risks, unlike the standard seating structure.

The bus was banned from operating until the violations were corrected, and the driver was fined 60,000 KZT (94.44 GBP).

Some sleeper buses may lack adequate safety features like seat belts or proper emergency exits. This can increase risks in case of an accident.
