Two residents were rescued after falling into a well in Indonesia.

The Merangin district fire department and locals carried out a rescue operation to retrieve Kadir, 52, and Ramadi, 32, from the pit in Merangin Regency, Jambi, on February 15.

The victims were reportedly cleaning the well when they accidentally fell in.

Nearby residents heard them screaming for help, prompting locals and officials to save them.

Footage shows one of the rescuers ascending while clinging to a rope, carrying the unconscious man.

Upon reaching the opening, the rescuers hauled the man out of the pit.

The two victims were transported to Colonel Abunjani Bangko Regional General Hospital for medical treatment.

They are now recovering and were reportedly in good health.

Okta, a member of the Merangin district fire department, said: 'The victims were evacuated using ropes tied to them, and we took them to the hospital because they were weak from lack of oxygen.'
