Spanish cops chase boat carrying six tonnes of hashish
Spanish police pursued a boat carrying six tonnes of hashish.
The Guardia Civil intercepted drug vessels along the Huelva coast, seizing 5,721kg of cannabis residue and arresting six suspects in three simultaneous operations this weekend. The raid also netted 130 fuel containers with 3,250 litres of gasoline for trafficking vessels.
The first pursuit off El Portil saw a boat flee, dumping three hashish bales. One crew member was apprehended after falling overboard.
Near La Antilla, a second chase ended with 135 bales (5,400kg) and four arrests.
At Donana beach, a man with ten hashish tablets and four bales was caught by a stranded boat. All six face trafficking charges and are in custody.
On the same day in Punta Umbria, two were caught with 2,500 litres of fuel, while in Cartaya, 750 more litres were seized, with drivers under investigation. Authorities warn that the volatile fuel poses a risk of deadly explosions.
Recently, Spanish cops investigated a mystery tunnel found running under Ceuta, uncovered during a hashish trafficking operation.
The Guardia Civil inspected the tunnel, which stretches at least 50 metres (164ft) and reaches a depth of 12 metres (39ft). Its cramped dimensions, about 40 centimetres wide and 60 centimetres high, suggest a complex design.
Authorities said the narrow passage could have been used to transport drugs across the border between Morocco and Spain.
No drugs were found at the site, and no arrests were made during the discovery.
