This is the terrifying moment a driver was swept away by severe floods in Indonesia.

The motorist attempted to cross a flooded road in Bekasi, West Java, on March 4, despite warnings from locals that the current was strong enough to drag a vehicle.

Local media reported that the man, desperate to get to work, continued manoeuvring through the water, causing his white SUV to drift approximately 65 ft (20 m) off the motorway towards the river.

Footage shows the four-wheeler being engulfed by the rapid, muddy floodwaters.

The driver managed to escape the vehicle and attempted to swim to the riverbank, while residents used long bamboo poles to pull him to safety.

He reportedly did not sustain any injuries in the incident. The car remained submerged and is yet to be towed out.

Several regions of the country have been experiencing continuous rainfall, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay indoors and evacuate if necessary.
