A car was swept away by a flash flood that hit Bandar Lampung City, Indonesia on Friday (January 17, 2025). An amateur video captured the dramatic moment as the vehicle floated and was carried away by the current in the Pidada underpass, Panjang District.

Local residents quickly tried to evacuate the car. Tenty, a local who filmed the incident, said that the road conditions under the underpass were very dangerous. "The road is downhill and the floodwaters get deeper as you enter the underpass," she said.

The flash flood caused significant damage. According to data from the Lampung Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), as many as 14,160 houses in Bandar Lampung City were submerged, and more than 11,000 people were affected.

In addition to extreme weather, a lack of public awareness of environmental cleanliness and poor drainage systems also exacerbated the impact of the flood. Until now, efforts to handle the flood are still being carried out by the government and volunteers.
