At least twelve passengers were injured when a Srinagar-bound SRTC bus overturned inside the Navyug tunnel along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on Wednesday evening. Dramatic CCTV footage captured the horrifying moment as the bus, traveling from Jammu to Srinagar, lost control and flipped over inside the tunnel, causing panic among the passengers.

The incident took place inside the Banihal-Qazigund Navyug tunnel, leading to an immediate suspension of traffic. Authorities quickly responded, and all injured passengers were rushed to the Qazigund hospital for initial treatment before being shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for more advanced care.

Mohammad Arif Tantray, an official from Athan Company, which is responsible for the maintenance of the 8.5-kilometer-long Banihal-Qazigund four-lane tunnel, confirmed that the traffic from both sides of the tunnel was temporarily halted. The recovery van was called in to remove the overturned bus, and after its clearance, traffic was restored.

This unfortunate incident highlights the challenges of traveling through the busy tunnel and the crucial need for heightened safety measures. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
